What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that has been in use for over 200 years.  This system of medicine is based on the premise that like cures like and uses minute doses of a very precisely chosen remedy to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms.  The medicines are of natural origin and range from botanical, animal, and mineral sources.

Homeopathy was originated by a German physician by the name of Samuel Hahnemann in the late 18th century.  He recognized that a person’s various symptoms are all connected and paint a picture of a fundamental disharmony.  He saw disease as a limitation of an individual’s ability to maintain balance, harmony, freedom, and creative expression in the world.  He discovered that homeopathy can restore health by re-establishing freedom and balance.

Homeopathy recognizes that a person’s mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health are all connected and are all expressed in an interrelated way.  It is the homeopaths job to recognize this pattern or portrait and to match it with a similar essence or archetype of a medicine.  In this way, homeopathy is a highly refined and individualized medicine and for this reason can penetrate and catalyze healing in a very deep, profound and transformative way.  It is truly unlike any other system of medicine in its ability to meet the individual where they are.

What conditions can Homeopathy treat?

Homeopathy can treat a wide range of conditions such as asthma, eczema, urinary tract infections, depression, anxiety, digestive problems, insomnia, and hives to name a few.  These medicines are so highly diluted that they are safe for babies, pregnant woman, and the elderly.

What is homeopathic treatment like?

Patients are often given a questionnaire to complete prior to their first appointment.  The initial appointment is longer and ranges from 1.5 to 2 hrs in which a very thorough history of the chief complaint and related conditions are discussed.  Then a precisely chosen remedy is given.  Follow-up appointments are usually one hour and scheduled on a monthly basis as needed until the patient is significantly improved and a foundation of renewed health and vitality is established.  Once this occurs appointments are on an as needed basis.
