Naturopathic Medical Training:

Naturopathic Doctors (ND's) are licensed primary care physicians who have attended a four-year, postgraduate-level naturopathic medical school and are clinically trained in natural as well as conventional therapies. In addition to conventional diagnosis, laboratory testing and pharmaceutical medications, the scope of naturopathic medicine includes nutrition, counseling, homeopathy, botanical medicine, physical therapies, and mind-body approaches. Naturopathic training does encompass the same basic bio-medical sciences as conventional medical training, but the approach to health and disease is distinguished by the naturopathic medical philosophy and treatments.

Naturopathic Philosophy:

First do no harm.  The aim is to use the most gentle means possible to affect a cure.

The healing power of nature.  Naturopathic physicians recognize that there is innate healing wisdom within the universe–both within our own bodies and within our environment—through the abundance of natural therapeutics available.

Treat the whole person.  Naturopathic physicians understand that symptoms are not isolated entities but rather are complex expressions of a greater physiological process.

Treat the individual, not the disease.  That is, two patients, despite having the same medical condition, will receive entirely different treatment plans based on their own expression of the disease as well as other processes at play.

Doctor as teacher.   To truly empower someone is to educate them about their condition and provide them with the tools to influence their own health.  

Prevention.  The best medicine is to prevent disease from occurring in the first place as well as prevent further progression of a disease process that has already manifested.
