About Dry Skin

Dry skin, also known as xerosis, is a condition where the skin lacks sufficient moisture, resulting in a rough, scaly, and sometimes itchy or cracked appearance. The medical term for dry skin is xeroderma. It occurs when the skin loses too much water, oil and natural moisturizing factors, leading to a decrease in its natural oils and ability to retain moisture. Dry skin predisposes and exacerbates many other skin conditions like eczema (dermatitis), rosacea, perioral dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and keratosis pilaris. Dry skin also accelerates aging of the skin. Addressing dry skin not only makes the skin soft and supple but also prevents many other skin diseases from occurring.

Treating Dry Skin | My Approach:

My holistic approach to healing dry skin involves both an inside out and outside in approach. That is, I focus on diet changes, herbs, and nutritional supplements that help heal dry skin from the inside by correcting nutrient deficiencies that can lead to dry skin. I also focus on topical skin care products that replenish compounds needed for a healthy skin barrier and avoidance of skin care products and bathing techniques that overly dry out the skin.
