Hives & Angioedema

About Hives (Urticaria) & Angioedema

Urticaria (hives) are red or white wheals, usually itchy and transient.  Hives can be acute recurrent or chronic recurrent (recurring over 30 days).  Angioedema is red or skin-colored, transient swelling of portions of the face – eyelids, lips, or tongue.  There are many causes of urticaria such as foods (milk, eggs, wheat, shellfish, nuts, fruits), medications, contact allergens (grass, animal dander, latex, dust, mold, skin care products, detergent), cold or hot temperatures, sun exposure, pressure, autoimmune disease, and other causes.  It is often challenging to identify the cause.

Treating Hives | My Approach:

My holistic approach to Urticaria (Hives) involves trying to identify and eliminate the cause if possible.  Other supportive measures involve calming down an overactive immune system through diet, herbs, nutritional supplements, lifestyle modifications, and medications.  Allergy testing when appropriate.
