Keratosis Pilaris

About Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis pilaris (KP) is perifollicular hyperkeratosis with little, spiny hyperkeratotic follicular papules (accumulation of keratin which plugs hair follicles). These bumps occur mostly on the extensor surfaces of the extremities (shoulders, upper arms, thighs, buttocks), and occasionally the cheeks of the face.  The bumps are usually skin-colored but can also appear reddish, white, or brown depending on skin tone. The condition is generally harmless and doesn't cause any other health problems. KP is often better in summer and humid climates and worse in winter and cold, dry climates.

Treating Keratosis Pilaris | My Approach:

My holistic approach to keratosis pilaris involves optimizing the condition of the skin through diet, herbs, and nutritional supplements.  I also utilize topical formulations to improve the condition of the skin.
