About Psoriasis
Psoriasis a chronic, long-lasting autoimmune skin condition characterized by raised, red, scaly patches of skin called plaques. These plaques, often covered with silvery-white scales, can appear anywhere on the body but commonly affect elbows, knees, scalp, buttocks, groin, and lower back. While psoriasis can affect anyone, it's most common in adults. The most frequent type is psoriasis vulgaris, which occurs as chronic, recurring, scaling papules and plaques. Psoriasis vulgaris consists of acute guttate, chronic plaque, inverse, and palmo-plantar. Clinical presentation varies from only a few localized plaques to those with generalized skin involvement. Psoriasis can be associated with other conditions, including psoriatic arthritis, which affects the joints. The causes are genetic predisposition, physical trauma, infections, stress, drugs, dietary, environmental, and alcohol.
